Internet users create a mass of new data every single day. Currently, over 2.5 quintillion bytes of data is created each day and that pace is only accelerating with the growth of the Internet of Things. According to data released by Forbes, the amount of data created is enormous:
- Google processes 40,000 searches every second
- Users watch 4,146,600 YouTube videos every minute
- 456,000 tweets are sent on Twitter in a second
- Instagram users post 46,740 photos in a second
- There are 990,000 Tinder swipes in the same second
- And Spotify adds 13 new songs
It’s clear that data is the new currency of the 21st century.
For the pilot episode of our new show, Startup Talk, we invited an expert in the data field to give us some greater insights into this evolving landscape: Elena Poughia, Managing Director at Dataconomy and founder of Data Natives.
Elena Poughia On How Data Became the Currency of the 21st Century
Data Natives is Europe’s largest event platform for the data-driven generation. Data Natives was founded in 2015 to bring together communities from around the world who were excited by data science, machine learning and all data-infused tech.
We spoke with Elena Poughia about the upcoming Data Natives conference, which will take place on November 26th and 26th in Berlin. During our conversation we also discussed the connection between art and technology and why diversity is especially important in the field of data science and the development of algorithms.
The fifth edition of Data Natives will welcome over 2,000 attendees and more than 130 speakers. Speakers this year will include thought leaders from IBM, Facebook, SumUp and many more.
