Einride – the Elevator Pitch.
Founded in Stockholm in 2016, Einride designs autonomous electric shipping vehicles. To achieve this, its T-Pod freight vehicle uses radar, lidar, and camera technologies. These allow the vehicle to determine its location and reliably navigate. Notably, it is loaded with the NVIDIA Drive platform for its autonomous smarts. According to the company, the vehicle can travel 200km on one charge with a load of 26 tons.Â
How Einride will shape smart cities.
Reported in 2018, heavy duty trucks and buses produce 18.9% of greenhouse gas emissions from the transport sector in the EU-28 area. By eventually replacing shipping vehicles running on fossil fuels, Einride’s vehicles have the potential to clean up the freight industry. Furthermore, freight drivers are often subject to long working hours, which can result in accidents. Thus, Einride’s driverless approach can reduce the risks associated with employment in the freight industry by automating the riskier parts.
Why we’re watching.
Further, the company was a recipient of the 2019 EU Startup mobility prize. Earlier in 2019, the smart mobility startup launched a pilot with its customer partner DB Schenker, meaning that they are close to industry adoption. Additionally, the company closed its Series A round in October.
‘Our ambition is to disrupt the transport industry and closing our Series A brings us one step closer to that goal. The funding will allow us to start expanding in the US, deliver on our technology road map and to meet rapidly increasing customer demand’, says Robert Falck, CEO & founder of Einride.
