Urban Air Travel One Mile Closer with Skyports Landing Pads

Skyports – The Elevator Pitch

Founded in London in 2017, this smart mobility startup creates landing spaces for passenger and cargo drones. Notably, Skyports has designed its landing spaces in cooperation with such autonomously airborne companies as Lilium, Volocopter, and others.

How Skyports will shape smart cities.

The presence of landing pads brings cities one step closer to making accessible urban flight possible. While the company works hard to find locations that are appropriate for urban air travel, it is a challenge considering the yet unexplored factors that influence flight in a city setting. Overall, developing the third dimension of city travel is a feat that requires navigating heaps of legislative tape and gaining a positive public perception. So, Skyports’ Voloports are one stop shops for the customers of Vertical-Takeoff and Landing vehicles, making them a natural choice for modern cities.

Why we’re watching.

Notably, Skyports demo’d its first brick-and-mortar passenger drone landing pad in Singapore in October. Certainly, the collaboration with Volocopter is a long awaited milestone in the collective dream of urban air travel. Additionally, it’s the first step in gaining public acceptance. Therefore, potential customers can experience and have a say in the landing pads that may one day be commonplace.

‘The VoloPort is an important step towards establishing an entire air taxi solution in Singapore. Skyports has identified a number of potential VoloPort locations and air taxi routes across the city state. We look forward to the next stage of our exciting partnership with Volocopter as we work towards the introduction of commercial air taxi services in the city state,’ says Duncan Walker, Managing Director of Skyports.
