How to Eat Healthy While Living on a College Budget
The founders of Spyce and former M.I.T graduates Brady Knight, Michael Farid, Luke Schlueter and Kale Rogers were struggling to find a decent and affordable meal during their college years. That’s when they came up with an idea of Spyce.
Spyce is a fully automated restaurant that is able to prepare wholesome and inexpensive meals inspired by national cuisines from Latin America, Mediterranean countries and Asia. They believe that with replacing line cooks with robots, they can make healthy food budget-friendly and cooking more efficient.
How Does Spyce Work?
Spyce restaurant features 7 induction-heated woks that cook raw ingredients tilted forwards. This way customers can enjoy the process while waiting. All ingredients are prepared in a commissary kitchen and delivered fresh into Spyce restaurant. The woks feature temperature controlling to ensure that every meal is perfectly cooked each time. However, the robots aren’t able to do everything by themselves.
The Spyce founders partnered with Michelin-starred Cheff Daniel Boulud and Sam Benson. Together, they developed healthy, vegetable-focused recipes combining high-quality ingredients with delicious spices. Whether vegan or a meat lover, everyone can choose from variety of sustainable and healthy dishes.
Are Human Workers in Danger of Being Replaced by Bots?
Upon arrival, the guests are greeted by a host and are guided to place their orders on one of the available touchscreens. Each meal starts at $7,50 and can be fully customized to anyone’s taste. From the time the customers place their orders to the preparation of the meal should take no more than 3 minutes.
And what about the kitchen stuff? The founders don’t see the future of dining by replacing human workers with robots. They believe in creating meaningful connections with the customers and crafting unforgettable, visually appealing and delicious meals.
