“Will people suffering from COVID-19 have to deal with long-term health impacts? This is a question that we will not be able to accurately answer for many months or even years. It is, therefore, all the more important that relevant data is not lost.
Right now there are more than 1,000,000 survivors of COVID-19. However, in the absence of a standardised system, recovery data is not being collected. Healthcare workers are overburdened, and follow-up data that was unfortunately not recorded can no longer be used for global analysis.
The Survivors App gathers recovery data from patients and makes it available for global analysis, providing invaluable insights to the patient, the scientific community and public health systems.
Users’ anonymous recovery data is immediately available on a public dashboard providing insights for doctors, governments and researchers on a worldwide scale. A better understanding of the recovery phase of COVID-19 will be invaluable to inform policymaking, improve resource allocation and modify treatment.
Data from pandemics, most importantly SARS and MERS, show us that it’s not over when the virus is managed. The vast majority of patients from those outbreaks suffered long-term adverse effects, such as avascular necrosis, PTSD syndrome and disorders linked to depression.”
