Boreal Light Provides Rural Communities With Access to Clean Water

Where Do You Get Your Water From?

Worldwide, 1.8 billion people lack access to clean drinking water while unclean drinking water is killing a child every 90 seconds. In Asia, young girls can spend up to 6 hours a day finding and carrying 60 litres of safe water. This reduces greatly the time they have for their education.

Boreal Light GmbH is solving this prevalent problem by implementing their affordable solar seawater desalination/filtration systems for remote parts of the planet and off-grid applications.

Producing Clean Water from High Saline Water Sources

Boreal Light GmbH has developed the Winture Planet-Cube system, which is capable of filtrating and producing clean water from high saline seawater and brackish water sources (water that has more salt than freshwater).

Every hour, the Winture system can produce up to 650 liters of pure drinkable water. The system removes 99% of solids like bacteria and viruses from contaminated water sources. In addition, the Winture system is constructed to withstand the harshest weather conditions in the dry wind sand storms in Africa or the wet monsoon season in Asia.

The Winture system design is based on an off-grid system, which is able to work outdoors with the lowest possible maintenance services. It is powered by solar panel energy which is then transferred to a DC electricity input.

The system does not require a diesel generator or grid connections to perform. Not only does this system produce and filtrate water, but it is also offers a low current charging station for up to 10 devices at at time. Additionally, it helps rural areas with further development by offering them clean water and electricity.

Where to Implement the Winture System

There are two different types of the Winture Planet-Cube: the seawater and brackish water desalination. Optimal function for the seawater desalination model is along the coastal and isolated regions where small villages of people reside. The majority of these rural coastal areas do not have access to clean drinking water.

The other Winture system deals with the filtration of the brackish water sources that do not contain as much saline as seawater, but are not clean or pure enough to drink. These water sources are found inland and commonly found far from the sea.

About Boreal Light GmbhH

Started in 2014 in Berlin, Boreal Light GmbhH since the start has dealt with array of renewable energy innovations around the world. Though, their expertise is in solar and wind applications which in turn propels them to projects and innovations in areas with less access to grid, typical for rural and underdeveloped communities.
