Cargoroo – the Elevator Pitch.
The first of its kind, Cargoroo presents an e-mobility company focused on e-cargo bike sharing. Furthermore, the smart mobility startup was founded in Amsterdam in 2017. Basically, the founders of Cargoroo saw the need among young families and small business enterprises in urban areas for another way to meet their transportation needs. Dense traffic and concern for the environment caused riders to turn away from carbon-fueled transportation. Instead, they returned to the age-old tradition of cycling, with a modern electric twist. By and large, Cargoroo offers an accessible option for those in urban areas looking to take a load off.
How Cargoroo will shape smart cities.
The e-cargo bike is a missing link in clean urban transportation. Oftentimes, opportunities to transport large objects without a traditional combustion engine are few and far between, and the cargo bike is expensive if you don’t plan to use it regularly. Plus it has become quite the status symbol amongst urban families and when sustainability is also trendy, adoption accelerates.
Why we’re watching.
Notably, Cargoroo landed the 2019 EU startup mobility prize, one of ten recipients, along with other smart mobility company Whim. This means it’s got supporters in high places who are willing to bet on its model and who want to see it succeed.
