Soil Scout Raises Seed Funding to Wirelessly Monitor Soil

Soil Scout has started a late-seed funding round along with Husqvarna Group. Husqvarna Group is the leading investor for this funding with participation from private investors.

Soil Scout is planning to use the funds to spread the wireless soil monitoring startup around the world. This tool will help owners of green spaces around the globe manage water resources and better understand their soil. The founders of Soil Scout established the technology to improve land management techniques.

Soil Scout: An IoT Soil Solution

The Soil Scout sensor has the ability to transfer the critical underground data of moisture, temperature and salinity wirelessly. It can transmit the data from up to two meters below the surface for up to 20 years without maintenance. The system provides accurate insight into the health of sporting grounds without disturbing the pitches and soil top.

Purpose of Invention

Johannes Tiusanen, the founder of Soil Scout, who is a 19th generation farmer and a doctor in agrotechnology, invented this system to make farmers experts about their own lands. With the information from the sensors, they could decide the long term techniques and strategies for conserving water resources and increasing yields on the grounds.

Mike Burkholder, Director of Field Operations at Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies, said, ‘The Soil Scout moisture units have exceeded my expectations in their usefulness; I feel like we tend to not overwater as much, making management of the clay a bit less guesswork and a bit more science. Any advantage we can get in providing a better-quality surface, I’ll take. They certainly are a nice tool to have and help us tremendously in that regard.’

The Soil Scout aims to provide soil information in real-time to avoid disturbing the soil top and to save time. The Husqvarna Group is a leading investor and a producer of outdoor power products and advanced solutions. To date, this group sells its products in more than 100 countries.
