Whim – Elevator Pitch
The smart mobility startup Whim is based in Helsinki, Finland and was founded in 2015. MaaS Global is the parent company to Whim, which offers a subscription service to cover all your transportation needs. The goal of the company is to encourage travellers to think beyond car ownership. Its subscription service makes the price of your entire month of travel via rental cars, taxis, one monthly payment for all services. This setup is easily equitable to a monthly lease payment. The subscription offers flat fees and discounts for services that would generally be costly, such as taxis and rental cars.
How Whim will shape smart cities
Whim is reframing the way that people consider their transportation costs. Equating it to a car payment ropes in customers who may not have otherwise ditched their vehicles for fear of expenses. Plus the discounts offer a great incentive if you use taxis or rental cars often.
Proving his ambition, Sampo Hietanen, founder and CEO of MaaS Global, stated, ‘We will redefine the freedom of mobility to being more than just owning a car.’
Why we’re watching
In 2019 the company has reached 3 million trips on the platform and also received the future unicorn award from Digital Europe. Its unique approach to mobility packaging steps toward a vision for diversified transportation. Also, congratulations are in order to the company for landing 29.5 million EUR in funding this November.Â
